Daniel Acosta – Crossing the Digital Divide in a Power Chair

Excerpt:

Daniel Acosta is a trainer at nonprofit Austin Free-Net where he teaches computer basics. He also has Cerebral Palsy (CP) and uses a motorized wheelchair. Shortly after his birth on August 13, 1985 in Fresno, California, Daniel’s mother became concerned when he did not cry or turn over on his own. He was diagnosed with CP.

Never a quitter, Daniel’s mother Rosie (a single mom of 5) provided him with the best care she could, always encouraging him to be independent. “I was a quiet child … unlike now,” Daniel laughs, “Mom pushed me to be independent and my brothers and sisters helped. Society may not go easy on me.”
